Paramount College provides the graduate nutritional practitioner with the necessary skills in a range of natural therapy treatments, based on biological sciences and highly specialised nutritional medicine. This Bachelor in Natural Medicine ensures graduates of the nutritional medicine courses can demonstrate a broad range of knowledge and skills to be able to analyse a client’s health status, including current medical treatments. Based on this assessment nutritional medicine course graduates can formulate and negotiate compatible, highly customised treatment protocols for health management.

Should you study nutrition?

Apart from its omnipresence in virtually every part of our lives, the study of nutrition can enhance a host of different professions. For example, if you have a deep passion for fitness and want to pursue a career as personal trainer, then an in-depth understanding of nutrition can help you give your clients the best possible service and results. They will be able to eat the right foods to complement their workout regime as well as supplement their healthy diet with expertly prescribed supplements.

As a standalone qualification, nutrition medicine degree programs offer numerous benefits and opportunities including:

  • The ability to help those close to you by offering hints, tips and guidance on healthier food choices
  • Practising nutrition as a consultant in your community or in a local clinic
  • The knowledge to write and publish a book of recipes with scientifically nutritious meals
Course Overview

Holistic nutrition is an emerging system of health care that focuses on prevention and the self-healing process through the use of diet, food as medicine and nutritional compounds. The Bachelor of Health Science (Nutritional Medicine) is designed to educate practitioners who are competent in the implementation of holistic nutritional principles and apply nutritional strategies that are supported by traditional knowledge as well as research drawn from peer-reviewed journals from many disciplines, including biomedical science, clinical nutrition, food as medicine, pharmacognosy and psychology. Holistic nutritional analysis of the presenting case uses philosophy as well as principles and science for identifying the underlying causes of imbalance and disease and allows graduates to formulate and negotiate compatible, highly individualised treatment protocols for health management.

Graduate Outcomes

On completion of the Nutritional Medicine course, the graduate nutritionist will be equipped to practice autonomously in his/her own professional clinic or work with others in a natural health care centre. Nutritional Medicine graduates are capable of applying highly specialised nutritional medicine knowledge with eligibility to apply for recognition by peak professional associations, including the Australian Natural Therapists Association, to become eligible for professional insurances, ensuring their professional status within the industry.

Clinical Experience

Student interns of Nutritional Medicine are required to participate in a minimum of 408 clinical practicum hours. This structured programme provides a vehicle through, which the intern can apply their knowledge and skills in a supervised environment, much as other health care professionals are required to do. The supervision of qualified practitioners provides reassurance to the intern, while the experience itself builds confidence as the student prepares to graduate.

Completion of ‘Provide first aid’ (HLTAID003) is required prior to admittance into Clinical Practice (student clinic); currency must be maintained whilst in student clinic and in order to graduate. ‘Provide first aid’ (HLTAID003) must be done externally as Paramount College does not offer it as part of their study programme.

Electives

To enhance their learning and accommodate personal student preferences at our college of Nutritional Medicine, all students completing the Bachelor of Nutritional Medicine are required to complete a minimum of 2 electives from across the institution’s full range of subject offerings of 4 or more credit points. The points associated with these electives cannot be substituted for required units for this qualification, but will provide credit points towards further qualifications.
