Paramount College of Natural Medicine (PCNM), based in Perth, Western Australia, have recently been approved to offer five Bachelor Degrees in Natural Medicine. In the academic world, this is an emerging and dynamic field of study and PCNM’s accredited degree programme is ground breaking on several fronts.
- The Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy) is the first 3 year degree to be offered in Australia, and as such was thoroughly scrutinised prior to approval. Other degree courses are available, but require 4 years of study to complete. It is a very practical and varied course, which includes studies in nutrition, herbal medicine, homoeopathy and basic massage.
- The Bachelor of Health Science (Nutritional Medicine) is an exciting course which is very relevant today. The medical profession, as well as the general public are becoming increasingly aware of the impact of nutrition on our health. PCNM’s degree addresses how food may be used as medicine, as well as environmental and sustainability factors which contribute to public health, locally and globally.
- The Bachelor of Health Science (Mind Body Medicine) is a unique qualification and is the first of its kind to be accredited in Australia; it may well be the first in the world! Mind Body Medicine teaches the practitioner to empower and engage both themselves and their clients to take personal responsibility and make positive changes in their lives. This approach greatly enhances individual and community health outcomes.
- The Bachelor of Health Science (Homoeopathy) is currently the only accredited qualification of its kind available to new students in Australia. Homoeopathy is a method of treating dis-ease with infinitesimal doses of remedies to restore health. It can be used to treat physical and emotional states, which makes it very relevant for the stress and lifestyle related conditions we often find today.
- The Bachelor of Health Science (Western Herbal Medicine) is an outstanding qualification, which provides comprehensive study in the efficacious use of herbal medicine, including cultivation and manufacture of plant derived medications. Herbs have been very well researched in recent years, and their strength and usefulness is now undeniable.
- Each of the degree courses are based on a solid foundation of health sciences, including a broad understanding of nutrition. This also facilitates the opportunity for students to successfully complete double qualifications.
These qualifications are available now, with the next face to face intake at PCNM starting in March 2010; many of the subjects are also available online and can be started immediately.
All of the degree qualifications have also been accredited by the Australian Natural Therapists Association.
PCNM opened their doors as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in 2003, offering 5 accredited qualifications. They were the first institution in Australia to develop a complete face to face delivery programme for Natural Medicine to ensure a consistently high standard of education for its students.
In 2009, PCNM became the first RTO in WA to be accredited by the Commonwealth Government to offer VET FEE-HELP, which means that eligible students can defer payment for their studies until such times as they are making a reasonable income.
This new Higher Education accreditation represents the culmination of 2 years of dedicated work, to ensure that the qualifications now offered are second to none in Australia. PCNM now offers 22 formal qualifications, including the 5 Bachelor of Health Science degrees.
Paramount College students can graduate with an Bachelor Degree within 3 years of full time study.
